Instagram removes like counts and throws Influencers into a spin

Instagram is often making changes to its own platform however their latest change seems to have really shaken up the people who like to refer to themselves as Instagram Influencers.

In their latest move, Instagram has removed like counts from users’ posts in a bid to make the platform a friendlier place. But for Instagram influencers, this move might have just made it harder to do business.

Instagram has suggested that they feel the number one reason why users don’t post more now, is that every single time you post some people feel that they are being heavily judged. By removing the option to see the number of likes, people may not feel pressure and begin to post more often which is an Instagram goal.

Instagram Influencers are Instagram users who have established credibility and now have an audience; who can persuade others by virtue of their trustworthiness and authenticity. Your brand’s influencers are users that employ your brand hashtag who have the largest number of followers. As an example, a children’s brand might find an Instagram Mum who has a lot of followers and is often receiving comments onto a beautiful feed of photos. They may approach her to inquire if she would like their gift sent to her in exchange for a photo and write a lovely comment showcasing this gift. Without the ability to see how often posts are liked the Influencer can only trust the comments and they will have to have a little more trust and faith.

If an influencer is genuinely influential, posts content worthy of their target audience, and has something of interest to say, they will not be greatly affected by this change. While those who engage is likes for likes exchanges will flounder as this is simply not as important from now on.

The goal for everyone who uses Instagram for their business is to connect with their followers on a more personal level and create a stronger lever of like and trust.
